The group was established in 2002. Research is mainly conducted in the areas of nanophotonics, plasmonics, photonic integrated circuits in silicon, micro-structured optical fibers and liquid crystals photonics.

The Photonics Group is equipped with a broad range of high-speed test/measurement equipment and a large number of passive and active photonic devices.

Specifically, available equipment include a CW tunable laser source for the C&L bands, a DFB laser bank for WDM experiments, optical and microwave spectrum analyzers, pulse-pattern generators and signal generators, a 40 GHz electrical/optical sampling oscilloscope and other telecom oriented equipment.

In addition, a broad range of state-of-the-art optical/microwave components is available, such as:

  • DFB lasers
  • LiNbO3 modulators
  • Phase modulators
  • Tunable filters
  • EDFAs
  • RF broadband amplifiers
