The Electroacoustics laboratory unit, which is a unit of the Telecommunications Laboratory of the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Polytechnic Faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, was founded in 1976 by Professor Emeritus George Papanikolaou, with first activities in the fields of electroacoustics, room acoustics and sound insulation. In 1985 the unit was restructured and expanded into other areas. Today, in its complete form, it covers the area of Electroacoustics and Television Systems, as well as all related scientific fields related to audio and video technologies.

The AUTH Electroacoustic and Television Systems Unit contributes, through its multifaceted work, to the formation of technological developments in matters of sound and image at a national, European, and global level. This activity of the Unit is done through its educational work (teaching and laboratory training of higher education students, training services in various technological and educational institutions), through its presence at international conferences and the publication of relevant works in scientific journals, through cooperation with international bodies and participation in national and European research programs and through offering expertise and services (studies, systems, applications) to third parties.
